A Personal Message from Vince Daniels about his Comeback Show

From DNARadioShow.com, May 8

Twenty-one long months have passed since the last time I sat behind a live microphone. When I return to radio in my former Saturday time slot of 10 o'clock starting tomorrow morning, it will be with a long memory of all the reservation I had about coming back to this crazy business of radio. Last time around, it nearly destroyed my health. That's because I worked at it a little too hard.

While I know that a lot of you enjoyed my old Many Moods show, I believe that it lacked focus. Everytime I heard that train sound in the KCAA top-of-the-hour I.D., I sometimes had this gnawing feeling that the train had figuratively left the station without me. These months have given me a lot of time to think. One thing that I've learned is that a great, competitive radio talk show should be much simpler in scope and easier to put out.

I'll be coming back home to the Inland Empire's KCAA 1050 AM. This time around, before I sit down to crack the mic, the first thing I'm going to do is to get a comfortable seat on that train when it leaves the station at approximately 10:06 am. Those listening on the radio will get to hear what those watching on KCAA Internet-TV will also hear. Those watching the webstream however will be able to see 30 seconds of the old Indian head test pattern. I have requested that the station sign itself off temporarily so that I can properly bring myself back.

After the test pattern will be something guaranteed to bring a smile to the faces of those who grew up watching UHF Television back in the early 70's. On screen will be the old KBSC Channel 52 card to the backdrop of Bert Kaempfert's instrumental tune That Happy Feeling. Every afternoon at 2 pm, an hour before Channel 52 signed on, they would play that song over and over while you stared at the station logo. For you who remembered that time in history and want to re-live it, click here.

In those days, Channel 52 used that song to pay homage to Sandy Becker, the first local host of a live kids show. Becker used it as his theme. I am also using it to remember all the nice people that went before us on national and local television. You'll recognize many of the faces, like "Wonderama" host, Bob McCallister, "Hobo Kelly," "Sheriff John," "Mr. Wishbone," Ben Hunter of KTTV's afternoon movie matinee, Allen Ludden, Bill Cullen, Ralph Story and Jess Marlowe, to name only a few. These are people I would have to my home for dinner. Not a feeling I share about many of today's TV and radio personalities.

Following the tribute, the train will depart the station, as you'll hear in the KCAA sign-on announcement. And yes, what sign-on would be complete without the National Anthem. You'll hear (and see) that too. Then the station focuses the webcam back into the studio to introduce "The DNA Radio Show." I am honored to introduce as my co-host, Paul Andrews, one of the nice guys you'd be honored to have in your home. Our hope is to create for you a weekly talk show that you would consider "appointment radio;" the same as the live childrens show you got up early in the morning and set your alarm to watch.

DNA is myself, Vince Daniels, and Paul Andrews. We're a couple of nice middle aged guys that remember how life used to be before the world got complicated. Old Many Moods fans will be happy to know that Jay Boatman and Crista Curtis will also be returning semi-regularly to the show.

I want to welcome all of you to my new website. It has been a labor of love, thanks in large part to my webmaster extraordinaire, Dean Hill. It is a portal to what has been another love of mine, my new radio talk show which begins tomorrow morning.

That love comes from a lot of people who have stood by me these past weeks and months to make my first day back run smooth. People like Dennis Baxter, Bill Bruns, Todd Rowan, Joe Shaff, Christina Nystrom, Nick Anthony, Paul Lane and last but not least, Fred Lundgren, the CEO of KCAA Radio.
